Black History Month Celebration!
An Afternoon of collective wellness, healing, and celebration of the African diaspora
Join us for a yoga and mindfulness event to celebrate Black History month! We will be gathering for an afternoon of Kemetic Yoga with certified instructor and Community Health Worker, Lauren Wolley. Arrive early for this experience as space will be limited to accommodate mat space.
What is kemetic yoga?
Kemetic Yoga refers to a holistic spiritual system of self-development created by the sages of ancient Egypt. Kemetic yoga is a meditative, slow and passive practice, emphasizing the four point breathing method. Through geometric progression and intentional breath control, we move and circulate life force, strengthen the respiratory system, activate the circulatory, parasympathetic nervous system, thyroid and glandular system.
Lauren will guide you through this practice and internal tune up, of stretching, lengthening, releasing, and deepening. In our breath we are grounded, cleansed and restored for a new day.
Explore the intersection of mindfulness and race
After yoga and light bites we’ll shift into a self-inquiry workshop guided by yogi, psychotherapist and educator to marginalized communities, Makala Lacy. This workshop will help cultivate daily mindfulness practices rooted in self-love and understanding.
Eat Good, Feel Good
Vegan Caribbean bites and hot tea will be provided by our local chef, Kat Williams, owner of Noisy Library— a QPOC owned company run by Kat and their wife, Nneka in Los Angeles.
Bring one or more books written by a Black author and share it with community during our book swap. Books can be related to mindfulness, fiction, social justice, anything- as long as you think it will bring someone joy and knowledge!
This space is for Black people and allies of all races, sizes, genders, and backgrounds to connect, move, breathe and be.
