Fearless Flying Workshop with Maria Zavala
This workshop will focus on the building blocks and components to safely take your practice to the next level and learn to fly safely without the use of a wall. Inversions build strength and confidence, increase mental focus, and improve balance. Going upside down can be fun and exhilarating; learning to fall safely is part of the experience.
Class will start with an introduction to Pranayama (breathing practice) to center and focus. The physical practice will involve the first part of the Ashtanga Primary Series which contains mostly forward bends and hip openers, and the first part of the Second Series, which is mostly backbends to warm up for the inversions.
We will be working on the following inversions:
*Sirsasana (headstand) *Pincha Mayurasana (forearm balance) *Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) *The basic principles of dropping into a backbend from Adha Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) for more experienced practitioners.
Maria Zavala has the unique ability of harnessing her own practice and teaching expertise to understand both what her students are experiencing and how to guide them through it. She studied over eight years with Tim Miller, Senior Ashtanga teacher, and has been teaching for over a decade. She brings a lively, playful dynamic to the practice while maintaining disciplined focus.
